About Nicole…

This is me.     –>

I am 28 years old. I currently reside in a nice yellow condo in Wixom, Michigan, which is a suburb of a suburb of a suburb of Detroit. I live with my boyfriend, Jack, and the one house plant I haven’t killed yet.

I have quite the educational track record. I started off in 1999 at Berklee College of Music in Boston. I did about two years there before some life circumstances forced me to drop out. I toured with a band for about two years, worked in community college radio for two years, and eventually found my way back to a university in 2005.

In 2007, I received my Bachelors of Arts in Music Management from Madonna University in Livonia, Mi.  Since I had taken eight years to get my bachelors degree, I decided to counter balance that by doing a one year accelerated distance MBA program, and in 2008 I received my MBA in International Business from Salem International University in Salem, WV.

So I feel like I should disclose that this is not my first attempt at a Ph.D. After I graduated from SIU, I enrolled at Capella University in the Ph.D. program for organizational management.

I hated it.

I was one in a class of 45, and I could never get any attention or help from my professors. Also, after about three quarters, I realized that my creative side was not being fulfilled and organizational management was NOT my passion.

I dug around and stumbled on Fielding’s Media Psychology program. Although I’ve never formally studied psychology, I am extremely excited and passionate about media, and especially passionate about combining music and media. I have long been fascinated with how people interact with, relate to, and live lives around music and media.

So here I am.

Since we’re going to get quite cozy over the next few years, here are a few more things you might like to know about me:

I am a musician, with both classical and jazz training. I sing and play the bass, guitar, piano (well, not really- but I know what all the keys are called, and how to make chords), and percussion. I am awesome at wii music. I am also a complete audiophile. My favorite band IN THE WHOLE WORLD is U2. Coming in second would be Sigur Ros, Amiina, Interpol, Bishop Allen, The Thermals, The Cribs, Lily Allen, Bloc Party, Vampire Weekend, Rilo Kiley, Feist, Matt and Kim, Art Brut, and James Taylor. I also love classical and motown.

I love to read and never have less than two books going at a time. My favorite color is green, and I love glasses, scarves, and TOMS shoes.

I have a JOB. I am the Scheduling Manager for a company that is a contractor for the US Department of HUD. When homes that are FHA financed get forclosed on, they revert to being property of the Dept of HUD who then sells them for pennies on the dollar. The company I work for represents HUD at the closing table, and I am in charge of a team of people who sets up the closing appointments. (I live in Michigan…and it is a JOB.)
